A student is awarded the prize for the Cotton Business Idea Competition

The SUNY Morrisville Cotton Business Idea Competition

Similar to the popular television reality show, Shark Tank, the SUNY Morrisville Cotton Business Idea Competition allows students to compete against one another and earn cash prizes. Each year, students can submit their business ideas as an individual or team, and, if chosen as a finalist, get to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges comprised of Morrisville-area entrepreneurs. The top three finalists are awarded a cash prize.

Supported by Douglas and Susan Cotton, entrepreneurs and generous college donors, to further Morrisville students’ entrepreneurial endeavors, the competition is sponsored through the college’s Business and Entrepreneurship Department.

Portfolio Day

Portfolio Day is an interactive educational event that gives students the opportunity to meet with professionals who review their portfolios and offer critiques and constructive feedback.

Throughout the year, you prepare a personal portfolio that includes your résumé, cover letter, awards and letters of recommendations. You then take part in a one-on-one mock interview with industry professionals during the spring semester, helping you learn the critical points of interviewing and job seeking while also providing future networking opportunities.
