Through the SUNY Morrisville agricultural science bachelor’s degree, you will have the ability to tailor the program to best fit the career you’re most passionate about.

This unique degree program allows you to choose from one of four specialty tracks:

• Dairy Management, where you will be learning dairy cow and calf management skills on our 360-head learning laboratory at the Dairy Complex. 
• Livestock Management, allowing students to practice management skills across multiple species including dairy goats, beef cattle, poultry and sheep.
• Agronomy, making the most of our 400-acre farm to focus on crops production and nutrient management through field and laboratory courses.
• Agricultural Outreach and Education, which is tailored to the needs of the aspiring agriculture education professional by providing the widest range of agricultural industry experiences.

Regardless of the path you choose, the program’s curriculum — which was developed with the help of our agriculture industry partners to meet the needs of today’s workforce — will expose you to a wide breadth of courses within agriculture, along with a set of core courses common across all four tracks. Each track also culminates in a 15-credit internship to provide you with direct, hands-on experience in the field.

As a program graduate, you will be trained to succeed across a wide array of agricultural specialties, from employment in the agricultural service sector to on-farm management of dairy and other livestock species, or in the public sector as an agricultural educator.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the agricultural science bachelor’s degree program, a successful graduate will:

1. Utilize the developed expertise in concepts, theories and emerging methodologies to succeed in tackling real-world issues specific to agriculture in the chosen degree track.
2. Recognize problems specific to agriculture in the chosen degree track and formulate solutions to such problems.
3. Demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills to solve problems in the practice of agriculture.
4. Apply practical knowledge and skills specific to agriculture in the chosen degree track.

Learning by Doing

The agricultural science bachelor’s degree program provides you with an education that is rooted in applied learning. You will have the opportunity to apply the theory learned in lecture in a real-world setting at the college’s state-of-the art facilities, including the Arnold R. Fisher Dairy Complex, where you will care for and work with many livestock species; the George A. Spader Horticulture Center featuring greenhouses and a soils laboratory; the Aquaculture Center; the Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology (ACET) Center; our three-acre Arboretum, our exciting new Dairy and Specialty Crops Incubator, and hundreds of acres of farmland for our pastures and field crops courses.

Continuing Education

Graduates of the program from all four specialty tracks will be well-poised to continue their studies at the graduate level in the same or similar field.

Students who complete the program within the agricultural outreach and education track will be well-prepared to pursue a master’s degree in education. Students interested in Teacher Certification also will have the option to complete their content core credits at SUNY Morrisville and then complete their education credits at SUNY Oswego.
